Top Dive Sites of Cocos Island

• Alcyone – A submerged seamount crawling with schooling hammerheads, mantas, and even sailfish or marlin.

• Dirty Rock – Famous for marble rays and hammerheads swirling around a massive underwater pinnacle.

• Big Dos Amigos – Archways, pinnacles, and heavy pelagic traffic. Expect jacks, snappers, and hammerhead flybys.

• Bird Island (Chatham Bay) – Frogfish, morays, lobsters, rays, and white tips with a bonus hammerhead cleaning station.

• Manuelita – Stunning vertical walls and dense marine life. Home to white tips, creoles, and rays.

Sample Itinerary

• Day 1 (Oct 22): Arrive in San José, Costa Rica (SJO). Required overnight at D Sabana Hotel (formerly Park Inn by Radisson).

• Day 2 (Oct 23): Morning pickup at hotel. Transfer to Puntarenas (1.5–2 hours) and board the Cocos Island Aggressor.

• Day 3–4: Arrive at Cocos Island. Let the diving begin!

• Day 5–10: Eat, sleep, dive. Repeat. Up to 3 dives per day at the island’s most legendary sites.

• Day 11 (Nov 1): Begin return transit to Puntarenas.

• Day 12 (Nov 2): Disembark by 7 a.m. and transfer to SJO or host hotel. Flights should be scheduled after 12:30 p.m.

Weather permitting, guests may also enjoy a jungle hike and swim in one of Cocos’ many waterfalls.

During late October to early November, divers can expect: 

Common Sightings: 

• Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks: Witness massive schools gracefully navigating the currents, especially around seamounts like Bajo Alcyone and Dirty Rock. ​

• Whale Sharks: These gentle giants are often spotted during this period, adding to the thrill of your dives. ​

• Tiger and Galápagos Sharks: Encounters with these formidable predators are possible, offering adrenaline-pumping moments. ​

• Manta and Devil Rays: Glide alongside these majestic creatures as they soar through the ocean depths. 

• Vibrant Marine Life: From white-tip reef sharks and marble rays to large schools of jacks, tuna, and endemic species like the red-lipped batfish, the underwater world here is teeming with life.

• Water Temperature: Approximately 80°F (27°C)

• Visibility: Ranges between 50 to 100 feet (15 to 30 meters), though it can vary due to seasonal factors.

• Currents: Expect strong currents and surge; dives are best suited for experienced divers comfortable with such conditions. ​

Vessel Overview:

• The Cocos Island Aggressor is a 124-foot (38-meter) yacht designed for comfort and stability, accommodating up to 22 guests in 11 staterooms. 

Staterooms:

• Master Staterooms (Upper Deck): Four rooms featuring either a queen bed (for couples) or two twin beds, large picture windows, private bathrooms with showers, individual climate control, monitors with media players, and hair dryers.

• Deluxe Staterooms (Lower Deck): Seven rooms equipped with two single beds, portholes, private bathrooms with showers, individual climate control, monitors with media players, and hair dryers.
