Dive Addicts Pool Operation Guide


1. Purpose and Goals

Below is an outline of the following procedures and policies to maintain the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of Dive Addicts Pool, maintaining standards for health, safety, and fun recreation for those who use the facility.

2. Facility Overview

  • Name: Dive Addicts
  • Address: 12356 S 900 E, Draper, UT 84020
  • Size and Features:
    • Pool dimensions: 924 Surface feet, 59,055 Gallons.
    • Bather load: 38 
    • Features: Corner step entry point w/ rail for assisting, built in step ladder w/ rails
    • Amenities: 2 locker rooms w/ lockers, toilets, showers, hygiene products, enclosed lid trash bins, benches, poolside seating.
  • Operating Hours: Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM, Saturday 10AM-5PM, Closed Sundays
  • Seasonal Operation Dates: Seasonal operating hours and dates may vary.

3. Staffing

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Pool Manager:
    • Oversee daily operations / perform hourly check-ins.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Handle staff scheduling, training, and conflict resolution.
  • Lifeguards:
    • Warning: No active lifeguard on duty.
    • Individuals using Dive Addicts Pool use at their own risk.
    • 3rd party companies / business entities using Dive Addicts pool facility are responsible for establishing their own standards and procedures as long as they fall within and do not violate Dive Addicts standards and procedures, as well as pool operations.
  • Dive Addicts Staff:
    • Handle admissions, sales, and customer inquiries, scheduling.
    • Opening and Closing procedures of the pool.

 

  • Maintenance Staff:
    • Perform water quality testing and adjust chemicals.
    • Test PH, Chlorine, Total pool alkalinity, Flow meter, temperature.
    • Check Water / Acid mix, Check Chlorine, backwash filters.
    • Ensure proper function of equipment, adjust or fix equipment when needed.

4. Safety Protocols

Health and Sanitation

  • Comply with Utah's Public Pool Rules outlined in Utah Administrative Code (UAC) R392-302.
  • Water Quality Testing:
    • Test pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly.
    • Pool logs are logged and stored at Dive Addicts main building.
    • Pool logs are filed monthly.
    • Pool logs contain the following: PH, Chlorine, Alkalinity, cya, drain and port cover checks, weekly tests, chemical changes, maintenance, operator sign off.
  • Facility Cleaning:
    • Clean restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas daily. 
    • 3rd party companies / businesses using Dive Addicts pool facility are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of restrooms, locker rooms, common areas, trash, towels, floors, restocking paper towels, toilet paper, hygiene products when using the facility.
    • Disinfect high-touch surfaces / contact areas daily or more as needed.

Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency Action Plan (EAP):
    • Documented procedures for medical emergencies, drownings, severe weather, and evacuations.
    • Regularly drill EAP scenarios with staff.
  • First Aid:
    • Maintain fully stocked first aid kits accessible at all times.
    • AEDs must be functional and readily available.
    • Medical grade Oxygen kit is accessible at all times
    • All Dive Addicts staff are certified with basic first aid, cpr, aed and oxygen administration training.

5. Pool Rules and Policies

General Rules

  • No running, diving in shallow areas, or rough play.
  • No jumping into the pool from the outer perimeter, no jumping off the Diver training bench or back roll platform
  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult / legal guardian at all times.
  • Children between the ages of 10-17 must be supervised by an adult / legal guardian or have written and signed permission to be supervised by training staff (18 or older) with the company / business entity they are working with.
  • Proper swim attire required.
  • Individuals who use the pool must properly rinse in the shower before entering the pool.
  • Only Dive Addicts staff may enter the compressor room, pool mechanical room, and Instructor closet.
  • Snorkeling and Diving equipment are for Dive Addicts personnel only, and are off limits to all other parties. This applies to the following: Tanks, Weights, BCDs, Regulators, Diver training bench / back roll platform, fins, snorkels, masks, towels in Instructor closet, wetsuits, any equipment hanging on dry rack or staged on training platform.

Hygiene Rules

  • Outside food & drinks are only permitted in the outer sections of the facility. 
  • Food and drinks are not permitted in locker room / restroom areas.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted in the pool.
  • Infants / toddlers with diapers must be changed in the locker / restroom area and are not permitted to be changed elsewhere to maintain hygiene of the facility.
  • All biohazardous waste must be disposed of in the lid covered trash bins located in the locker room / restroom areas. 
  • All trash must be taken out and replaced daily to ensure hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Maintaining hygiene, trash, food and biohazardous waste as well as the disposal of those items is the responsibility of whichever staff is occupying and using the pool facility at that time.
  • In the event that bodily fluids are exposed to the pool, it is the duty of current occupants to report this immediately. Occupants must exit the pool water so that current staff can sanitize and disinfect the pool.

Dive equipment rules

  • Only Dive Addicts staff may enter the compressor room, pool mechanical room, and Instructor closet.
  • Snorkeling and Diving equipment are for Dive Addicts personnel only, and are off limits to all other parties. This applies to the following: Tanks, Weights, BCDs, Regulators, Diver training bench / back roll platform, fins, snorkels, masks, towels in Instructor closet, wetsuits, any equipment hanging on dry rack or staged on training platform.

 

Specific Policies

  • Weather: During winter, scrape snow and ice when needed, lay out salt in front of the doors to prevent icing over. 
  • Capacity: Limit patrons based on staff coverage and state-mandated bather loads.
  • Food/Drink: Allow only in designated areas. No food or drink allowed in the locker room / restroom areas. No food or drink in the water. 
  • All food and drink spills must be properly cleaned and dealt with by the individual or current staff actively using the facility.

6. Maintenance and Equipment

  • Inspect and maintain pumps, filters, and chemical feeders daily.
  • Weekly deep cleaning of the pool and deck areas.
  • Keep a log of repairs and replacements for compliance.

7. Financial and Administrative Procedures

  • Budgeting: Allocate funds for staffing, maintenance, utilities, and supplies.
  • Admissions and Fees: Clearly communicate pricing to patrons.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain attendance, incident, and maintenance logs for at least 3 years.

 

9. Compliance and Inspections

  • Health Department inspectors must be accompanied by a Dive Addicts staff member when performing any and all inspections.
  • Ensure all certifications and permits are up to date.
  • Post required safety signage, including pool depth markers and rule boards.
  • All other parties or patrons will receive a copy of the Dive Addicts pool operations guide and must sign, agreeing to comply with the standards and procedures of that guide.

10. Closing Procedures

  • Final check on following: PH levels, Chlorine levels, Alkalinity, Flow, temperature, acid mix, chlorine mix.
  • Ensure pool cover is completely covering the pool.
  • All trash bins have been emptied and liners replaced.
  • Floors mopped.
  • Paper towels and toilet paper restocked (if needed).
  • Replenish shower hygiene products (if needed).
  • Fill tanks (if needed).
  • Turn off Lights, lock doors and set alarm.
